1966
New Department
On June 13, 1966, by Order No. 2584 of the Minister of National Education, a new department was established at the then Higher Institute of Economics under the name “Business Management and Machine Processing of Economic Information”.
1967
New Degree Program
By Resolution No. 327 of the Council of Ministers dated July 22, 1967, a new degree program, “Organization of Machine Processing of Economic Information”, was established. Head of the Department: Prof. Dr. Rumen Dimov Yаnakiev.
1974
“Organization and Design of Economic Information Processing”
In 1974, the department and the corresponding degree program were renamed “Organization and Design of Economic Information Processing”, abbreviated as ODEIP. Heads of the Department: Prof. Dr. Atanas Yankov Ganev (1974–1976) and Prof. Dr. Angel Kirilov Bachvarov (1976–1986).
1986
“Automated Processing of Socio-Economic Information”
In 1986, the department was renamed “Automated Processing of Socio-Economic Information”, while the degree program was renamed “Socio-Economic Information”. Heads of the Department: Prof. Dr. Angel Kirilov Bachvarov (1986–1990) and Sergey Stoilkov Mitkov (1990–1991).
1991
“Management and Informatics”
In 1991, a departmental structure was introduced at UNWE, and the department was renamed the “Management and Informatics” Department. Head of the Department: Sergey Stoilkov Mitkov (1991–1993).
1992
“Economic Informatics”
In 1992, the department was renamed “Informatics”, while the degree program was renamed “Economic Informatics”. Head of the Department: Sergey Stoilkov Mitkov (1991–1993).
1994
“Informatics”
In 1994, the faculty structure was restored at UNWE, and from then on, the “Informatics” Department became the “Informatics” Department within a faculty structure. The degree program was also renamed “Informatics”. Head of the Department: Assoc. Prof. Evgeniy Radev.
2003
“Business Informatics”
In 2003, the degree program was given a new name: “Business Informatics”. Head of the Department: Assoc. Prof. Evgeniy Radev.
2008
“Business Informatics and Communications”
In 2008, the department incorporated the former “Economics and Management of Communications” Department, establishing a section within the department dedicated to Communications Economics. The department was renamed “Information Technologies and Communications”, offering two degree programs: “Business Informatics” and “Communications Economics”. Head of the Department: Prof. Dr. Valentin Kisimov (2008–2016).
