History

The Department was set up in 1966 under the name "Business management and machining of information”. This is the oldest department of economic management in the country. In 1972 it was renamed into „Theory of management and business systems’ modeling" and offered the courses of “Theory of management” and “Management of the national economy" to all economic disciplines in UNWE. Since 1991, the Department of “Management” had been an integral part of the Faculty of “Management and Informatics” and is a leading Department for the Bachelor’s and Master’s specialties:

  • Business Management
  • Business Administration

“Business Administration” is one of the new specialties in UNWE, approved with a decision of the Academic Council from November 2005, and is a direct heir of the “Business Management” specialty. It is a stage of the process of harmonization of standards and specialties with those, adopted in EU countries.

The goal of training Bachelors in “Business Administration” is to prepare highly qualified specialists in management through the acquisition of fundamental knowledge and applied skills.

The main tasks of the training are:

  • To prepare professionals with knowledge for the nature of social and economic phenomena and processes;
  • To develop skills for their assessment and analysis;
  • To build competencies for making rational decisions at operational and middle management level.

The objectives are achieved through the course content, which meets the high requirements:

  • Studying the fundamental economic, managerial, social and legal, and methodological disciplines;
  • Pragmatically focused specialized training courses and modules consisting of compulsory and optional courses.

The Department of “Management” carries out training for Master's in “Business Administration” and related specialties for Bachelor graduates in:

  • Economic disciplines - with a training period of 1,5 years;
  • Non-economic Bachelor disciplines - with a training period of 2 years;
  • “Business Management” or “Business Administration” - with a training period of 1 year.

The training content for Master’s is structured in the curriculum, taking into account the need for competent professionals and experts to work at all levels and areas of management in enterprises.

The aim of the training is to prepare professionals with deep knowledge, methodological and forecasting skills and competence to take decisions at senior management level by building on knowledge about specific areas of economic, business and society, as well as of corporate strategies and policies.

The Master’s Program in “Business Administration” offers the opportunity to get MA in the primary Specialty, and specializations in “Business Communications”, “Quality Management and Environment” and “Health Management”.

The academic staff of the Department includes eight Habilitated and six non-Habilitated lecturers, eleven of which are Doctors in "Social Control".

The Department of “Management” provides a course in "Introduction to Management” for all specialties in UNWE.
