Initially there have been five lecturers at the department and Head of the Department was Prof. Zdravko Sugarev. Over the years consecutive Heads of the Department have been Prof. Ivan Kirkorov (1976-1990), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sebastian Kamenarov (1991-1994) and current Head of Department since 1995 and on is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dobromir Todorov. During the years of its existence the Department has conducted training in Mathematics for all the students of the University. At different periods of times some mathematical disciplines had also been read to the students in other specialities, such as: Higher Mathematics I and II Part, Probability Theory, Linear Algebra and Mathematical Programming, Financial Mathematics, Insurance Mathematics.
