Research activities of “Economics” Department
The teaching staff of “Economics” Department carries out wide research activities, taking part in:
- Development of national research projects;
- Scientific conferences and symposia, organized by the Department;
- Collective development of textbooks;
- Monographs.
Members of the Department have published many self-designed textbooks and teaching aids, scientific papers, journal articles, reports from participating in other national and international projects and conferences.

International activities in “Economics” Department
The teaching staff of “Economics” Department participates actively in the international activities of UNWE by cooperating with foreign partner universities and in particular with the following universities:
- University of Florence, Italy;
- F + U International Academy, Berlin, Germany;
- Urals State Economic University, Ural, Russia;
- University of Nis, Serbia .
Lecturers from the Department participate in various projects and programs:

The Department has organized and carried out a round table in March 2006 on "Globalization", with the participation of Dr. Norbert Riymar - Director of F + U International Academy in Berlin, professors from “Economics” Department and students in “Macroeconomics”.

During every academic year, foreign teachers, visiting in UNWE under Erasmus Programme, give series of lectures in English on various up-to-date topics to students in “Macroeconomics” - third and fourth year, Bachelors and Masters.

In connection with the implementation of the project of Assoc. Prof. Dr. E. Georgieva under “Jean Monnet” Programme, a competition was organized and held, for students’ essay on: "Bulgaria in the global world" with supervisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. E. Georgieva, the second phase of which ended with a round table on the same topic on 12.04.2005

Participation of lecturers from “Economics” Department in international mobility
Lecturers from the Department carry out regular mobility under “Erasmus” Programme. During the mobility they carry out short series of lectures (8 academic hours per week) in foreign languages to students at the host universities.
In 2006 and 2007 Senior Assist. Dr. E. Sotirova took part in a cycle of lectures in English in two International Summer Universities on “World Economy” in Constanta, Romania. The Summer Universities are a joint initiative of four universities – the University of Economics, Vienna, Austria; the University of Economics in Bucharest, Romania; "Ovidius" University - Constantsa, Romania, and UNWE.
Students in “Macroeconomics” participate in mobility under “Erasmus” Programme, and spent one or two semesters in European universities as well as at specialized international summer universities.
Lecturers from “Economics” Department have delivered series of lectures at foreign universities.
Prof. Dr. Habil. R. Assoc. Prof. Dr. P. Tanova is an external examiner for Open University - London and gives lectures for: City University of Seattle – САЩ, University of Portsmouth –Uk, The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants – UK.
Teachers from “Economics” Department have developed and published abroad, in various languages, monographs, scientific papers, journal articles, reports of international conferences, etc.
In recent years, 9 teachers of the Department have undergone fellowships abroad, with varying length, in connection with participation in international projects and programs.
