The Department of “National and Regional Security" was established in 1990 with a leading Specialty “Economics of Defense and Security”. At present it trains 218 students. Graduates can find professional realization in:

• The bodies of central and local government administration for defense and security (including the State Agency "State Reserve and Wartime Stocks” and the units of “Crisis management and preparation for defense”);
• Ministry of Defense and the Bulgarian Army (mainly the resource units of the Army, and the financial planning bodies);
• Ministry of Interior and the security services;
• The structural units of the State Agency for National Security;
• Companies of the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Economics in the defense industry;
• Companies with commercial activities in the defense and security sector;
• Customs services (administration and operational work);
• In operations for organization of protection and security of companies in the business sector;
• In non-profit organizations in the field of defense and security;
• In research organizations with interests in the area of defense and security.
